Group will use next month’s New York Auto Show to target the livery industry with a stretch version of its Chrysler 300 sedan.
The ’07300 Long Wheelbase will be 6 ins. (15 cm) longer than the base model and feature an additional 10.2 cu.-ft. (0.3 cu.-m) of interior space.
The modification will be handled by Accubuilt Inc. of Lima, OH. In addition to the added room, the 300 Long Wheelbase will feature amenities such as lighted writing tables, power ports for laptops and cell phones, and custom paint option.
“You want your wife’s eyes or something,” says 300 brand manager Mike Perugi, “we will be able to match that color.”
Pricing will be announced closer to launch, Perugi tells Chrysler’s media blog site, thefirehouse.biz.
He is equally tightlipped about anticipated volume, but says the New York show should provide an effective springboard for sales. More than 59% of the nation’s livery business is centered in the Northeast, Perugi says.
Competitor vehicles are the Lincoln Town Car Executive L and Signature L models, the Cadillac DES and – to a lesser extent – stretched versions of the Audi A8, Jaguar XJ8 and7-Series.
The base-model 300 is built on Chrysler’s LX platform, which also shoulders the Dodge Magnum cross/utility vehicle, Dodge Charger sport sedan and the Chrysler Touring edition for the European market.
The cars are built in Brampton, Ont., Canada.
