InfoMove Inc., a developer of telematics software and services, received approval of a patent that provides a system for instantaneously monitoring traffic congestion by collecting location and speed information from motor vehicles.

The monitoring and reporting of this information will enable drivers to receive estimated time of arrival and alternative route recommendations based on current and predictive traffic flow information.

Americans spend two billion hours a year stuck in traffic, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation, while the annual cost of traffic congestion has skyrocketed to over $48 billion in lost productivity.

Providing real-time and predictive traffic congestion information directly to drivers will greatly improve travel times, saving money and frustration to the millions of American motorists, says Peter Holland, InfoMove’s president and CEO.

"The award of this patent provides the foundation for InfoMove to work with its partners to develop the next generation of intelligent transportation systems," he says.
