Ford Motor Co. pulled off a successful inventory balancing act during the third quarter, as it maintained levels consistently below 790,000 for the period spanning July-September. The auto maker departs September with a backlog of 786,000 units, following 790,000 vehicles in August and 784,000 in July. The consistency comes even as Ford continues to see sales shrink on a year-over-year basis in 2004. September sales were off 9% vs. like-2003, while August fell 7% and July dropped 8%. ...
