AutoAlliance (Thailand) Co. Ltd. will invest $350 million in an upgrade to its truck plant to support the production of next-generation Mazda Motor Corp. and Ford Motor Co. pickups.

The Mazda-Ford joint venture says output of the new compact pickups will begin in mid-2011.

The investment will support facility upgrades and supplier tooling for the trucks.

The latest spending will increase Mazda and Ford's total joint investment in the facility to more than $1.85 billion since operations began in 1995.

AutoAlliance Thailand exports Ford and Mazda pickup trucks to more than 130 markets.

A state-of-the-art passenger car plant was opened in July 2009 and produces the Mazda2 and Ford Fiesta for sale in Thailand, Association of Southeast Asian Nation member countries and other markets.
