Ford Motor Co. will shutter its Wixom, MI, assembly plant May 31 as part of an ongoing restructuring strategy.

Ford announced plans to close the plant, which currently produces the Lincoln Town Car, in January 2006.

As part of Way Forward, Ford will close 16 plants in order to align capacity with demand for its products.

To date, the auto maker has closed St. Louis Assembly and Atlanta Assembly, and next year plans to mothball Twin Cities Assembly in Minnesota and Batavia Transmission and Maumee Stamping in Ohio.
