DETROIT – General Motors Co. has no intention to exit the fullsize SUV market, despite the segment’s collapse two years ago. As recently as 2005, the large SUV segment accounted for 697,697 sales and a 4.1% share of a 17 million-unit light-vehicle market, according to Ward’s data. When gas prices spiked in the summer of 2008 to more than $4 per gallon, sales tumbled 49% to 356,279 units and a 2.7% share of the market.
