PARIS – Production of the Smart ’06 cross/utility vehicle for North America, to be called the Formore, begins in 2005, when Smart takes over the Mercedes-Benz car plant in Juiz de Fora, Brazil, with an annual capacity of 60,000 units. Investment for the new Smart CUV will be about $250 million, Ben Van Schaik, president of DaimlerChrysler Brasil Ltda. says in published reports. Earlier reports had put the amount at $500 million.
