Honda Motor Co. Ltd. says it will debut its new hybrid-electric vehicle, to be called the Insight, at the 2008 Paris International Auto Show Oct. 2.

The Insight, the name of the auto maker’s previous dedicated HEV, will go on sale in the U.S., as well as other global markets, April 22, an American Honda Motor Co. Inc. executive stated last month.

“The original Honda Insight pioneered hybrid technology in the U.S. and remains a symbol of Honda’s commitment to innovative technology and fuel efficiency,” Honda CEO Takeo Fukui says in a statement. “This new Insight will break new ground as an affordable hybrid within the reach of customers who want great fuel economy and great value.”

The Insight, although the first HEV to market in the U.S., was an also-ran to rival the Toyota Prius, which outsold it by a wide margin. Honda pulled the HEV from the U.S. market in 2006.

Honda releases no new details about the upcoming HEV, instead reiterating its sales goals (100,000 units annually for the U.S., 200,000 globally) and that the styling of the 5-door 5-seater will mimic that of the FCX Clarity, Honda’s hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle.

Honda also promises a more cost-efficient version of its Integrated Motor Assist hybrid technology that will power the Insight, which Honda says will be the “best value in its segment.”
