Kia Motors Corp. releases a rendering of the KV7 concept that will make its debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit next month.
A spokesman tells Ward’s it is too early to tell if the vehicle will see production, but Korean media report a cross/utility vehicle based on the KV7 will launch without gullwing doors in September.
The KV7 also features high headroom and rear seats that swivel 360 degrees.
The spokesman notes popular Kia models such as the Soul subcompact, Forte 2-door and Sportage CUV all began as avante garde concepts at major auto shows, then rapidly emerged as little-changed production vehicles.
“We will have to wait for reaction to the KV7 and then we will see if it goes into production,” the spokesman says.
The KV7 will be the only concept vehicle Kia will display in Detroit. All Kia production models at the show have debuted elsewhere.
