It was the North American debut of the concept, first shown at the 2003 Tokyo auto show. The sedan “represents a new design direction and a new design language – one that is bold and striking, yet simple and intriguing,” says Denny Clements, Lexus group vice president and general manager, in a prepared statement.

The LF-S, which is powered by a V-8 gasoline engine and high-output motor hybrid system, has all-wheel drive and can seat five passengers.

By using a wraparound design, Lexus says it was able to “virtually eliminate” the vehicle’s rear corners.

“LF” is short for “L-Finesse,” Lexus’s new design language.
