For 2001, Mercedes-Benz introduces its all-new 5.8L SOHC V-12 (see WEVTU — Sept. 1, '99, p.1) in two models: the CL600 coupe and S600 sedan. In both cars, the 5.8L, 36-valve V-12 creates 362 hp at 5,500 rpm and 391 lb.-ft. (530 Nm) of torque at 4,100 rpm. For the coupe, those figures translate to performance of 5.6 seconds for the 0-to-60 mph (0-to-97 km/h) run, thanks also to a curb weight reduced to 4,312 lbs.
