DETROIT – During an 18-year stint with Mercedes-Benz Canada, Ernst Lieb says he watched how Mercedes did south of the border, in the U.S., one of the auto maker’s most important markets. Now, Lieb is president and CEO of Mercedes-Benz USA. In September, he succeeded Paul Halata, who retired and now lives in Florida. During a lunch with auto journalists here, Lieb says colleagues told him the new posting would put him “under the microscope.” That was no surprise. “I knew that already.” ...
