Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd. reportedly has developed a new turbocharger for gasoline engines with a turbine wheel that can withstand temperatures up to 1,922 deg. F (1,050 deg C), a full 100 degrees higher than previously possible. The Nikkei Weekly says Mitsubishi employs a new titanium alloy for the turbine wheel with a specific gravity about half that of the more-conventional nickel alloys used for turbochargers, and the stainless steel turbine housing is only 2 mm thick. ...
