Nissan North America Inc. says the new ’07 Altima midsize sedan will begin at $17,950 for a base 2.5 model with a 2.5L 4-cyl. engine mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.

The price represents a $200 increase from last year’s Altima, Nissan says.

An Altima 3.5 SE with Nissan’s 3.5L V-6 VQ series engine is $24,000 if mated to the 6-speed manual.

Other Altima trims include the 2.5 S with 6-speed manual ($19,800); the Altima 2.5 S with Nissan’s Xtronic continuously variable transmission ($20,300); the Altima 3.5 SE with a CVT ($24,500); and the Altima 3.5 SL with CVT ($28,400).

Pricing for the new Altima Hybrid will be announced nearer to its early 2007 on-sale date, Nissan says.

Destination and handling for all ’07 Altimas is $615. The car goes on sale this week at U.S. Nissan dealerships.
