SPX Corp. will slash 1,000 jobs and close 25 plants as it works to integrate the operations of recently acquired General Signal Corp. (GSC). The Muskegon, MI, based automobile testing equipment supplier will close plants acquired in the October merger with GSC, including the former company's headquarters in Stamford, Conn.
