Sirius XM Radio Inc. will offer an introductory 3-month trial subscription of the Sirius Everything package on all certified pre-owned Volvo vehicles sold in the U.S.
Amerigon Inc.’s BSST subsidiary will install and test thermoelectric waste-heat-recovery generators inGroup and Motor Co. vehicles in the newest phase of a U.S. Department of Energy-funded program created to improve fuel economy and reduce dependence on foreign-energy imports. The DOE will contribute about $1.1 million in funding and BSST will contribute an additional $370,000 in this fifth phase of the project, which has a targeted completion date of March 31.
Alcan Engineered Products says it has been awarded $750 million worth of multi-year contracts over the past 12 months for its advanced lightweight solutions – more than in any other given year over the last decade. The supplier says its lightweight aluminum products can be incorporated successfully into any vehicle assembly and provide substantial benefits to auto makers seeking weight reduction, safety and structural stiffness.
China XD Plastics Co. Ltd. enters into a long-term, non-exclusive agreement with Changchun Wanbofeng Plastics Co. Ltd. to distribute carbon fiber-reinforced nylon composite, mainly used in auto parts and components in mid-class and luxury vehicles. China XD Plastics expects its CFRNC to displace similar imported materials and says the new product has been certified by auto makerGroup Corp.
AG says it will close its Huntsville, AL, plant by the end of 2010 because the United Auto Workers union failed to accept contract concessions. Union workers declined to open their current contract, slated to expire in 2012, Continental spokeswoman Kathryn Blackwell says. The facility, which makes powertrain and interior components, employs 1,200 workers at full capacity. Due to production cuts, only 972 employees have been working recently.
Standard Microsystems Corp. says its Media Oriented Systems Transport networking technology has been selected as part of the infotainment system for the new Lexus HS250h sold in the U.S. and Japan.
The U.S. Department of Energy has awarded $34 million to customers and government agencies of Clean Energy Fuels Corp. to offset the incremental cost of more than 800 new clean-burning natural gas-powered taxis, shuttle buses, refuse trucks and heavy-duty trucks. The DOE awards also will open new markets in several states by helping to defer the cost of building 11 new natural gas-fueling stations.
& Mfg. Inc. says in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission that it has been given another two weeks to reach an agreement on new loan terms with its banks. The supplier breached its loan agreement when its debt and interest payments skyrocketed andrevenue plummeted over the past year.
Inc. is supplying timing drive systems and turbochargers for the Audi TT RS, featuring a new 2.5L 5-cyl. gasoline engine. The supplier says its turbocharging experts worked with the Audi Quattro team to address the dual challenges of developing a turbocharger with special geometry and low weight. The two companies also worked together on the new 2.0L 4-cyl. diesel TT engine, which features BorgWarner’s third-generation variable turbine geometry turbocharging technology.
