LONDON — New car registrations in the U.K. jumped a startling 25.4% in September, to 443,265 units compared with 353,494 in like-period 2000. Registrations by private buyers soared 29.4% to 243,049 units vs.187,791 in the year-ago period, marking the highest level since August 1997, says the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders Ltd.
