DETROIT — European automakers, for the most part, suffered varying degrees of sales decline in the U.S. for September. The drop brought little surprise to the industry, which was braced for a dip following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in the U.S. The exception was BMW AG, which saw sales jump 4.4% compared to year-ago, with overall U.S. sales year-to-date up 19%.
