Volkswagen AG and German industrial union IG Metall reach a 2-year agreement covering wages for 100,000 workers at six German plants. The agreement calls for workers to receive a 3.1% pay increase starting in February, with another 2.6% increase in February 2004. Workers also will receive a €120 ($117) monthly supplement from Oct. 1 through Jan. 31, 2003, and a one-time bonus of €400 ($392) in May 2004. The deal was reached after a 14-hour marathon bargaining session.
