NEW YORK – Shock waves moving at supersonic speeds from a diesel fuel injector have been captured with an X-ray camera by researchers at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY. Researchers used the camera's X-rays to penetrate the aerosol fog as fuel emerged from an injector in an automobile diesel engine, providing a never before seen nor measured view of the combustion process, says Sol Gruner, professor of physics at Cornell.
