Two engines are available, a 1.4L turbocharged or a 1.8L naturally aspirated 4-cyl., mated to a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission.
The 1.4L features a liquid-cooled turbocharger that is integrated directly into the exhaust manifold vs. the traditional downstream location, which reduces complexity and weight. When mated to the 6-speed manual transmission, it is expected to deliver 40 MPG (5.9l/100km), according to GM. Both engines feature an easier-to-replace cartridge type oil filter.
The 6-speed manual features a wide range of gear ratios, including a tall top gear for improved fuel economy at highway speeds. The 6-speed automatic features Active Select, which allows sequential manual shifting. It also automatically shifts into neutral when idling, which improves both fuel economy and noise, vibration and harshness characteristics.
Safety equipment includes standard stability control, collapsible pedals, 3-point seat belts with pretensioners for all seating positions and a total of 10 airbags, including dual-stage front, curtain-side, side-impact and front knee airbags, the most in the segment, according to Chevrolet.
