The 4.8L V-8 is now the base engine for 2500-Series passenger vans.

A new 3500-Series passenger van joins the lineup, and is powered either by the standard 6.0L V-8 or the optional Duramax 6.6L V-8 Turbodiesel, both of which are mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The DuraMax V-8 Turbodiesel receives a host of improvements for model year ’11. It is both more powerful and up to 11% more fuel efficient than the outgoing model, and NOx emissions have been reduced by up to 63% thanks to a more robust exhaust gas recirculation system. The piezo-electric common-rail fuel delivery system operates at 30,000 psi (2,000 bar) and is B20-biodiesel compatible. The engine can be cold-started in temperatures as low as -20 F (-29 C) in under three seconds without using the block heater, according to GM.
An optional automatic heater burns diesel fuel to heat the cabin until the engine reaches normal operating temperature. It is integrated with the chassis, self-contained and does not share coolant with the engine.
