The base engine, a 3.7L V-6, features all-aluminum construction, dual variable valve timing, piston-cooling oil jets, and a deep-sump aluminum oil pan that extends oil change intervals to 10,000 miles (16,093 km).
The smaller of the two V-8 engines is a modified version of the 5.0L in the ’11 Mustang, and includes revised intake cam timing to increase low-end torque, piston-cooling oil jets, a deep-sump oil pan with 10,000-mile (16,093 km) change intervals and oil cooler for improved towing.
A single-overhead-cam 6.2L V-8, similar to the engines in the Super Duty series, is also available.
A twin-turbocharger, direct-injected 3.5L EcoBoost V-6 will become available in early 2011, featuring V-8-like towing and hauling performance.
All engines are mated to a new 6-speed automatic transmission in rear- and 4-wheel-drive setups.
