What’s New for ’11
The all-new Sonata lineup, which debuted in spring 2010, is expanded with the addition of the turbocharged 2.0T and Hybrid models.
The base engine is an all-new, direct-injection 4-cyl. with dual variable valve timing and variable intake manifold, mated to either a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission in the GLS, or a standard 6-speed automatic in the SE and Limited. It is the first midsize sedan to feature direct-injection on a naturally-aspirated engine, according to Hyundai.
Standard equipment includes a Bluetooth cell-phone interface, USB and auxiliary audio input jacks and XM satellite radio with real-time traffic updates and three months of complimentary service.
Expanded use of high-strength steel gives all ’11 Sonatas increased torsional rigidity over the outgoing model.
The 2.0T, available mid-year, is powered by a new 2.0L with twin-scroll turbocharger and direct injection, mated to a standard 6-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters.
Also joining the lineup mid-year is a Hybrid variant, powered by an Atkinson-cycle version of the 2.4L 4-cyl. and a permanent-magnet 40-hp motor with 270-volt lithium-polymer battery pack.
