GM to Sell Nissan Van Through Chevrolet

Nissan builds the NV200 in Mexico for the North American market, where production through March totaled 828 units.

General Motors says it will sell a version of the Nissan NV200 small cargo van as the Chevrolet City Express in the U.S. and Canada beginning fall 2014.

“Our fleet customers have asked us for an entry in the commercial small-van segment, so this addition to the Chevrolet portfolio will strengthen our position with fleets and our commercial customers,” Ed Peper, U.S. vice president-GM Fleet and Commercial Sales, says in a statement.

In January, Nissan launched output of the NV200 in Mexico for the North American market, with production totaling 828 units through March. The small van is sold in several global markets, with U.S. volume totaling 247 units in its first two months of availability.

“Working with partners to expand markets for our innovative products enhances Nissan’s growth and manufacturing efficiency by leveraging our capacity to meet growing demand in this space,” Joe Castelli, Nissan vice president-commercial vehicles and fleet, says in a statement.

Pricing for the new Chevrolet model will be announced closer to launch, GM says.
