GM Sweeps Car and Truck of Year Awards

General Motors&rsquo; Cadillac ATS won North American Car of the Year last year and had three finalists in this year&rsquo;s competition.

DETROIT – The Chevrolet Corvette Stingray and Silverado pickup win North American Car and Truck of the Year honors here, beating out the Mazda3 and Cadillac CTS in the car category and the Acura MDX and Chrysler Jeep Cherokee in the truck category. 

This year’s finalists were chosen from an initial field of 46 new cars, trucks and CUVs.

The Corvette is General Motors’ sixth car win. The Corvette also won in 1998. The Chevy Silverado is the fourth truck win for GM. The Silverado also won in 2007.

In the first 20 years, domestic automakers have won North American Car of the Year 11 times. Japanese automakers have won three times and European automakers four times. A Korean automaker (Hyundai) has won twice.

Domestic automakers have won North American Truck/Utility of the Year 13 times. Japanese automakers have won four times and the Europeans three times.

The NACTOY awards are unique because, instead of being given out by a specific group or media outlet, they are chosen by 48 automotive journalists representing a wide variety of media, including WardsAuto.
