Kia Releases Teaser Photo, Video of K8 Sport Sedan

The vehicle closely resembles the GT concept of 2011, except the rear suicide doors have been replaced by a conventional 4-door design.

Kia begins a long teaser campaign for its GT high-performance rear-drive sports sedan, which first broke cover as the GT Concept vehicle at the Frankfurt auto show in 2011, releasing a photo of a close-to-production version of the car.

To be dubbed the Kia K8 in Korea, the name for overseas markets still is not disclosed. The vehicle closely resembles the GT concept of 2011, except the rear suicide doors have been replaced by a conventional 4-door design.

The speedometer shown clocks speeds at various intervals up to 152 mph (244 km/h) at 5,500 rpm. The odometer shows the vehicle has 8,180 miles (13,164 km) under its belt.

The video does reveal the vehicle being put through its paces will be shown Jan. 8 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit.

The GT concept unveiled in 2011 shares the same platform and drivetrain as the upcoming Genesis G80 and could well beat that car to market.

Speculation by observers and some analysts is the K8 will launch with a gasoline 2.0L turbo 4-cyl. as standard and a 3.3L V-6 and 8-speed automatic transmission as optional, with pricing starting in the $40,000-$50,000 range.
