Lamborghini to Steal Spotlight at Geneva Supercar Unveilings

The Lambo 50th-anniversary car is made of carbon fiber and light alloys and expects to set a record in low weight among supercars. Another record will come from its V-12 engine that produces well beyond 700 hp.

VALBONNE, France – The 2013 Geneva auto show is going to be the best in years for the unveiling of the world’s most coveted supercars.

Under the roof of the Palais, the long-anticipated Super Ferrari, developed to continue the heritage of the F40 and F50 racing cars but suitable for the road, will be pitted against a futuristic Lamborghini and the dynamic Rolls-Royce Wraith.

Lamborghini is finishing a stunning fuoriserie (one-off) created to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the company founded by Ferruccio Lamborghini. The name of the unique Lambo is not known yet, but insiders say it will be a further evolution of the Sesto Elemento show car with the powertrain and technology of the latest Aventador Roadster.

The Lamborghini 50th-anniversary car is made of carbon fiber and light alloys, with the mission of setting a record in low weight among today’s supercars. Another record will come from its V-12 engine that largely will exceed the Aventador’s 700 hp.

The anniversary Lamborghini is likely to set another record with a selling price of more than €2 million ($2.7 million), making a modern Bugatti almost seem a bargain. The price is indicative of the car’s exclusivity, being a one-off rather than a limited-production vehicle.

It is not known whether the anniversary Lambo is being built to a customer’s specifications, but supplier sources say the auto maker plans to build three of the cars, perhaps for the auto maker’s museum and that of parent Volkswagen.
