Dodge’s new Blacktop trim, introduced late last year on the Avenger, Charger and Challenger, migrates to more vehicles in the lineup for the ’13 model year.
Blacktop, or what Dodge executives call “sinister,” is a dark, sporty trim that calls to mind the Batmobile or perhaps something from James Bond’s garage. It’s accented by gloss-black wheels, custom exterior colors, black split-crosshair grilles, darkened headlamp bezels and a trim-exclusive interior.
The Blacktop trim will be featured in the Grand Caravan minivan, Durango SUV and Journey cross/utility vehicle at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit next week.
The Dart is the only Dodge model that will not offer the Blacktop trim, although a similar, sport-oriented Dart GT trim debuts at the Detroit show as well.
Depending on the vehicle and other added features, the Blacktop package adds between $295 and $995 to suggested retail prices.
Executives say trim-specific and other custom models have increased sales for the auto maker, with such vehicles making up 25% of total sales. Chrysler delivered 1.64 million vehicles in 2012, WardsAuto data shows.
