Thyssen interested in voestalpine if approached

FRANKFURT, June 30 (Reuters) - German industrial group ThyssenKrupp AG said on Monday it could be interested in buing a stake in Austrian steelmaker voestalpine if approached by state holding agency OeIAG.

"If we were asked by OeIAG then we would be interested in talking to them, but we have no active position so far," a spokesman for ThyssenKrupp's steel division said, noting that so far an Austrian solution appeared to have been favoured.

Industry sources said last week all options were open in the billion-euro privatisation of the company, in which the Austrian government has a 34.7 percent stake, despite persistent speculation of a takeover by Canada's Magna International .
