Toll Collect meets German govt demands-minister

BERLIN, Jan 28 (Reuters) - Toll Collect's revised plans to launch Germany's much-delayed highway truck toll fulfill government demands, although an arbitration court must still rule on damages, Germany's transport minister said on Wednesday.

Manfred Stolpe told reporters before a parliamentary transport committee meeting he saw no reason for the German government to cancel its contract with the consortium, held by Telekom , DaimlerChrysler and Cofiroute .

The German government had given the consortium until the end of January to come up with a firm start date for the scheme.

Shortly before, the Greens' transport expert Albert Schmidt told reporters that the consortium aimed to introduce the truck toll on the nation's highways in two phases from the start of 2005, with a full-scale version available a year later.

Toll Collect, Schmidt said, also planned to offer 40 to 70 million euros per month if it fails to meet the new deadline, with an upper limit of 500 million euros.
