Toyota, Japan carmakers to boost electric vehicle chargers

TOKYO, July 29 (Reuters) - Four Japanese carmakers, including top ranked Toyota Motor Corp and Nissan , are working together to increase the number of electric vehicle chargers around the country in a bid to boost car sales, the companies said on Monday. Electric-powered vehicles accounted for just 0.6 percent of total vehicle sales in Japan in 2012, but the government wants to increase that figure to between 15 and 20 percent by 2020.
