UPDATE 1-Astra to hold creditors meeting on December 12

(adds background)

JAKARTA, Nov 28 (Reuters) - Leading Indonesian carmaker Astra International said on Thursday the company will meet with its creditors on December 12.

"The company plans to hold a second creditors' meeting on December 12 in Singapore," said a company spokesman. The company has sent a letter to the Jakarta Stock Exchange informing them of the plan.

A first meeting on Tuesday had to break up due to the lack of a quorum.

In the meeting, Astra hopes to gain creditors' approval of an $820 million debt restructuring proposal.

Singapore's Cycle & Carriage Ltd owns 32 percent of Astra, which it bought in 2000 from Indonesian Bank Restructuring Agency.

As of 1040 GMT, Astra shares were trading at 2,525 rupiah ($0.28), up more than three percent since the opening of Thursday trade.

Astra shares have swung widely, in the range of 1,650 to 2,825 rupiah, since early last week after the firm announced its plan for a rights issue.

The Jakarta stock exchange has announced a probe into the sharp changes in share price.
