UPDATE 1-Italy war protests block refinery, burn Ford cars

(adds Eni comment, para 3, 4)

ROME, March 28 (Reuters) - Some 100 activists protesting against the Iraq war blocked access to a refinery of ENI's Agip in central Italy for three hours on Friday morning, disrupting tanker deliveries, a protester said.

"We stopped access to the installation, blocked car parks and held up a peace banner saying, 'Put sand, not oil in the engines of war'," Francesco Auletta, one of the protesters, told Reuters from the refinery in Stagno in Tuscany.

Later, a spokeswoman for ENI said a protest had taken place.

"We confirm that there was a demonstration in front of the gates of the refinery," she told Reuters, without elaborating.

Separately, anti-war activists burned at least 10 brand new U.S.-made Ford cars at a dealership on the edges of Rome early on Friday and left a banner saying, "Sabotage the imperialist war", a police official said.
