UPDATE 1-Russia AvtoVAZ plans $100 mln credit-linked notes

(Adds details from paragraph 4)

MOSCOW, Feb 18 (Reuters) - Russia's biggest car-maker, AvtoVAZ , said on Tuesday it planned to issue about $100 million in credit-linked notes.

"This year we are planning credit-linked notes. There is no point in going to the market with any sum less than $50 million," Alexei Akinshin, senior vice president at Vneshtorgbank, financial adviser on the deal, told a news conference.

"It would seem that a minimum of $100 million is the sum we could work with."

He also said that AvtoVAZ could issue rouble bonds before the end of 2003 to refinance a one-year one billion rouble ($31.7 million) bond which is to be placed at the end of February.

"It is not profitable for AvtoVAZ to place long-term securities, as rates are going down," Akinshin said. ($ = 31.5503 roubles)
