US August brass mill imports up, exports off-CBFC

NEW YORK, Oct 25 (Reuters) - U.S. imports of brass mill products in August rose 11.2 percent from Aug. 2001 to 53,646,234 lbs, while exports fell 10 percent to 25,048,171 lbs over the same period, the Copper & Brass Fabricators Council Inc. said Friday.

Canada was the top destination for brass mill exports in Aug. 2002, the latest month for which data was available, at 10,943,248 lbs, followed by Mexico at 9,153,687 lbs and South Korea at 1,059,510 lbs.

Imports from Germany in August of this year reached 12,227,295 lbs, with Mexico next at 9,885,219 lbs, followed by Canada at 4,743,040 lbs.

Imports of sheet, strip, plate and foil products totaled 20,418,826 lbs while exports hit 6,728,352 lbs.

Pipe and tube imports weighed in at 19,203,135 lbs while exports were at 6,408,063 lbs.

Imports of profiles, rods and bars reached 10,944,226 lbs while exports totaled 10,225,805 lbs.

Copper alloy wire imports hit 3,044,047 lbs and exports totaled 1,685,951 lbs.

Brass mill products are used in the building, construction and automotive manufacturing sectors and in electronic and electrical applications.
