US brass mill imports, exports rise in July --CBFC

NEW YORK, Sept 25 (Reuters) - U.S. imports of brass mill products in July gained 8.6 percent from July 2001 to 56,651,855 lbs, while exports increased 13.6 percent to 25,045,152 lbs over the same period, the Copper & Brass Fabricators Council Inc. said this week.

Canada was the top destination for brass mill exports in July 2002, the latest month for which data was available, at 10,650,934 lbs, followed by Mexico at 9,914,085 lbs and South Korea at 987,506 lbs.

Imports from Germany in July this year totaled 14,007,189 lbs, with Mexico next at 9,983,155 lbs and Canada at 4,915,953 lbs.

Sheet, strip, plate and foil product imports weighed in at 20,832,528 lbs while exports totaled 7,385,332 lbs.

Pipe and tube imports reached 20,715,034 lbs and exports were at 5,589,401 lbs.

Imports of profiles, rods and bars reached 11,070,742 lbs while exports totaled 10,881,533 lbs.

Copper alloy wire imports hit 4,033,551 lbs and exports totaled 1,188,886 lbs.

Brass mill products are used in the building, construction and automotive manufacturing sectors and in electronic and electrical applications.
