US Sept. brass mill imports jump, exports dip -CBFC

NEW YORK, Nov 26 (Reuters) - U.S. imports of brass mill products in September rose 22.1 percent from Sept. 2001 to 55,810,177 lbs, while exports fell 2.2 percent to 23,581,019 lbs in the same period, the Copper & Brass Fabricators Council Inc. (CBFC) said Tuesday.

Canada was the top destination for brass mill exports in September 2002, the latest month for which data were available, at 10,724,598 lbs, followed by Mexico at 8,797,455 lbs and China at 406,168 lbs, CBFC said in a statement.

Imports from Germany in September 2002 totaled 17,081,025 lbs, with Mexico next at 7,872,108 lbs and Canada at 5,327,181 lbs.

Imports of all sheet, strip, plate and foil products reached 24,885,145 lbs, while exports weighed in at 6,474,477 lbs.

Pipe and tube imports totaled 16,982,018 lbs and exports were at 4,965,215 lbs.

Imports of profiles, rods and bars reached 10,992,261 lbs while exports totaled 10,910,725 lbs.

Copper alloy wire imports hit 2,950,753 lbs and exports reached 1,230,602 lbs.

Brass mill products are used in building construction and in automotive products and in electronic and electrical applications.
