Or downshift into 2nd or 1st. Might be a big jolt, buyt the car will slow down a lot faster than coasting.

The same could be said of the President and Congress for approving the CAFE requirements without any knowledge of manufacturing or what it would take to get to their 2025 goal.

I could see Tesla looking into if the 'commerce clause' will help them at all in this issue.

Thursday, March 20, 2014 - 12:15

Or you could always just get a 4-cylinder diesel and not have to worry about your mileage or need to stop at the nearest station until you've clipped over 500 miles on the trip computer.

Mr. Ziegler, Ward's also linked this article to their headlines the other week. It wasn't only GM that new about this for years, but also the government as well

Some of us have "prehistoric" vehicles that don't even have a trip computer, so we're forced to do the manual calculation.

Tuesday, March 18, 2014 - 09:46

Not to throw another monkey wrench into the calculation, but within pump gas, there's a difference between the summer blend and the winter blend as well. All things are not equal when looking at...

While I love the diesels and how they often over-deliver performance and fuel economy, we have to remember that the EPA number we are told for their gas counterparts are often handicapped. The EPA...

There's not much info readily available on the RAM site about it right now, let alone the price of the EcoDiesel option. Not sure about payload, but they claim it'll tow 9,200lbs.

What does...

To Manley, there are a lot of us diesel heads in North America, epsecially the U.S.

It's not just the better fuel economy but the torque that us diesel heads prefer.

Friday, February 28, 2014 - 16:49

Ward's has shown plenty of comparisons that even with higer fuel prices, the cost per mile driven is less with the Ram V-6 diesel. In fact, in Michigan right now, diesel is only about 50 to 70...

Thursday, February 27, 2014 - 16:57

I think Nissan would have been better off having Cummins create a V-6 light-duty diesel. Still great torque, but better fuel efficiency than the 5.0L V-8.

CARB and EPA rules need to be neutral, not aspirational.

Isn't the 2016 Chevy Colorado supposed to have a 2.8L baby duramax offering? Now there's a head-to-head midsize truck battle I'd like to see. Baby Cummins vs. Baby Duramax: Anyone want to take a...

I still stand by the claim that all teenagers when taking drivers training should be required to learn how to operate a manual transmission. It teached them to be true "operators" of their...

Thursday, January 23, 2014 - 08:19

I assumed they would go to the "split wing" front end like the other models (which I don't particularly care for). The outgoing 5.4L, was that the last of the 5.4L Triton that was used from the...

Shame it has no manual trans offering, but nonetheless a very nice 'muscle' car. Is this meant as a repalcement for the Monte Carlo (as Chevrolet has the 2-door Camaro back) or will GM revive...

I'm sure hoping the error is not the mention that the truck will be front wheel drive. Transverse engine location on a truck=fail.

Monday, January 13, 2014 - 15:02

They should be careful not to get into the trap that Ford got into with rebadging Ford's with Mercury emblems and more leather and chrome.

Monday, January 13, 2014 - 12:52

Good choice to add that baby-Duramax to the small/midsize segment. It'll easily rate at least 30mpg on the highway.

Wednesday, December 18, 2013 - 10:09

This millenial does ('84). Not so much the first generation, but the final generation of the Probe actually was a pretty nice design (nice style lines). Not the biggest car in the world, but can...

David, thanks for this bit of history on the Mustang. A lot of people also never knew that towards the end of the Fox-body years, there was a design for a new generation that was to be a Mazda...

We all know that cars suffer both in performance and efficiency in the harsh cold. I just filled up my '99 Civic this morning (1.6L stick-shift). My last tank, which was over the past 2 weeks in...

The last Lincoln I really liked was the Mark VIII. Nice lines and a lot of power. It all went downhill from there. I think you are right about one thing though. They don't have "car guys" or car...

I would agree. Harmonics of a 4-cyl prevent it from ever sounding like a V8. Even with tweaking the exhaust a bit, the best we can expect is for it to sound like a fart can put on the tailpipe.

Tuesday, December 10, 2013 - 08:53

It looks like they took the Fusion and added about 15-20% Mustang to it (It looks terrible). I agree the IRS was long overdue, but to enthusiasts, the Roush Mustang has had one for quite some time...

EPA test labs, meaning no boost and running 100% gasoline (no ethanol) will probably put the efficiency above that of the naturally aspirated 3.7L V-6. However, the real world enthusiast loves to...

I wonder what the EcoBoost option will be for the 5hp and 30tq jump in output? I'm guessing at least $1,500. Though I think people don't realize how thirsty engines get in boost (even 4-bangers)....

Monday, December 2, 2013 - 10:35

I would have to agree that the styling is quite polarized. Was out look at a lot on Sunday and the view from the side makes the entire front end look like a giant nose or 'snout' if you will. That...

Wednesday, November 27, 2013 - 08:37

I have to imagine that without towing and cruise control on the highway at 65 (maybe 70) for long stretches it could get close to that 30mpg mark. Is this V-6 diesel mated to the new 8-speed trans...
