Honda’s first pickup truck is based on a modified version of the company’s global truck platform on which the Pilot CUV also is based. Compared with the Pilot, 93% of the integrated unit-body frame has been revised to accommodate Ridgeline’s 1,100-lb. (499-kg) cargo capacity and 5,000-lb. (2,268-kg) trailer-tow capability. Changes include seven fully boxed cross members and a 15.7-in. (399-mm) longer, 122-in. (3,099-mm) wheelbase. Ridgeline also is the first pickup with 4-wheel independent suspension. The integral 4-door cab and rear body incorporate a 5-ft. (1.5-m) SRC composite bed that includes built-in cargo tie-downs and a weatherproof 8.5-cu.-ft. (241-cm) trunk housed below the bed floor. The tailgate can be opened from the side or in a conventional manner that extends the length of the cargo floor by 1.5 ft. (0.5-m). Three trim levels are offered, RT, RTS and RTL, all having a 247-hp, 3.5L V-6, 5-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
