The all-new Commander is Jeep's first 7-passenger SUV. Although it is based on Grand Cherokee's 109.5-in. (2,781-mm) wheelbase platform and has virtually the same overall length, it has unique styling. The boxy exterior's more vertical windshield and rear window, slab sides and more rectangular front end echo styling cues from the first Jeep wagons of the 1940s as well as the ’63-’91 Wagoneer/Grand Wagoneer – considered a pioneer of the modern station-wagon-type SUV. The interior comes with three rows of seats, each elevated slightly to provide better forward visibility for all passengers. Second- and third-row seats fold to create a flat load floor. A 3.7L V-6 is standard, while 4.7L SOHC and 5.7L OHV V-8s are optional. Commander comes in rear and 4-wheel-drive variants, the latter providing a choice between three full-time systems that are shared with the Grand Cherokee.
