What’s New for ’11
The new Pentastar V-6 debuts as the base engine. It features all-aluminum construction, dual variable valve timing, flex-fuel capability and is both more powerful and up to 11% more fuel efficient than the 3.7L it replaces, according to Chrysler. The new Quadra-Lift air suspension system – standard on the 4-wheel drive Overland and available on the 4-wheel drive Laredo X and Limited – features five settings that adjust the vehicle’s ride height through a span of 4.1-ins. (103-mm). Also new is the Select-Terrain traction control system, which is standard on 4-wheel drive Overland and Limited and available for both Laredo models. The driver selects a terrain and the system monitors and modulates throttle, brakes, transmission shift point, transfer case and stability control for optimum performance. Standard safety features include electronic stability control, seat belt pretensioners, full-length curtain-side airbags, front-seat-mounted side thorax airbags and active head restraints.
- The all-new Grand Cherokee is both longer and wider, boasts 4-in. (102-mm) more rear legroom, improved noise, vibration and harshness performance and a 146% increase in torsional rigidity versus the outgoing model.
