Carrying the historic name that graced some of Dodge’s most remarkable muscle cars in the 1960s and 1970s, Charger is based on the rear-drive Chrysler 300 sedan, but features unique styling and a sporty roofline more akin to coupe than sedan. Five variants are offered: SE, SXT and R/T plus the limited-edition Daytona R/T and SRT8. A 250-hp, 3.5L V-6 engine powers the SE and SXT. The R/T gets a 340-hp, 5.7L Hemi V-8. A 5-speed automatic transmission with manual-shift capability is standard in combination with all engines. In addition to the Hemi engine, the R/T features 18-in. wheels, high-output audio system, leather seats, heated side mirrors and a tire pressure monitoring system. The Daytona R/T comes with a modestly tweaked 5.7L engine that makes 350 hp and is offered only in two high-impact colors adapted from the 1970 Charger color palate: a metallic orange known as Go ManGo, and Top Banana, a bright yellow. It also has an exclusive front fascia with chin spoiler and blacked-out grille and special polished alloy wheels with body-color accents. The interior has "performance" seats and body-color instrument-panel accents. At the top of the lineup, SRT8 features a 6.1L Hemi V-8 that has been tuned by Chrysler Group's Street and Racing Technology Group (SRT) to produce 425 hp, the same rating as that of its larger 7L 1964-1971 ancestor. Upgraded brakes, a reworked suspension system and unique front-end design also are part of the package.
