6.2L V-8; 6.7L Turbodiesel V-8
What’s New for ’11
The 6.2L V-8 features a cast-iron block with aluminum heads, single overhead camshafts with roller rocker arms and variable cam phasing, and a wide bore and shorter stroke to allow for higher engine speeds and increased horsepower. There are two spark plugs per cylinder. Piston-cooling jets enable a higher compression ratio for improved efficiency. The 6.7L V-8 turbodiesel features a compacted graphite iron block and aluminum cylinder heads. It features an outboard intake and inboard exhaust architecture, placing the turbocharger in the valley between the cylinder banks, reducing overall system volume and improving acceleration and noise, vibration and harshness performance. The turbocharger features an industry-first dual-sided compressor wheel in a single housing, eliminating the need for a second, smaller turbo to minimize lag until the larger turbocharger spools up. The piezo-electric common-rail injectors can deliver up to five injections per cycle – two injections per cycle at idle reduces diesel clatter. Trailer-sway control joins the standard stability control system on all single-rear-wheel models. Outside, it sports a new hood and a new grille with Super Duty badging. Interior improvements include all-new seats and flow-through console with lockable storage, which is available in over 70 configurations.
- The Super Duty features two available new drivetrains, 100% designed and built in-house; a 6.2L V-8 gasoline engine, or a 6.7L V-8 Turbodiesel, both mated to an all-new heavy-duty 6-speed automatic transmission.
