Audi Starts New e-Motor Production in Hungary

Audi chooses its Hungarian plant as the production site for electric motors to power its new Premium Platform Electric (PPE) to be used for the first time in Audi Q6 e-tron series.

The facility in the city of Győr begins production in time for the model’s scheduled start at Audi’s Ingolstadt headquarters in Bavaria at the end of this year.

Currently, the Győr plant run by Audi Hungaria produces stators and transmission components in a new 49,212 sq.-ft. (4,572 sq.-m) production area, where the axles for the PPE are also assembled. Product testing takes place at the facility as well.

To produce the electric motors for the PPE, Audi has installed three new production lines, to cover stators, transmission components and axles. As an example of production complexities, stators have 28 individual work steps, while one axle alone requires 190 individual steps to assemble.

About 700 employees working in three shifts are building up to 2,000 electric motors per day for the PPE. The site supplies both Audi and Porsche brands. Audi CEO Gernot Döllner says, “The highly qualified team at the site has already built over 400,000 electric drive systems since 2018, which is invaluable experience.”
