Audi says its ultra-light concept car to be unveiled at the Frankfurt auto show in September doesn’t fit into any conventional automotive categories.

The Urban Concept features 1+1 seating, combining elements of a racing car, sports car and city car into one vehicle, the Germany auto maker says.

The car is not based on any current models.

Its cockpit, which integrates the undercarriage of both seats, is made of carbon-fiber-reinforced plastics and its roof slides back to expose the cabin to the elements.

Power comes from two e-tron electric motors fueled by a lithium-ion battery pack.

The Urban Concept’s wheels are free-standing, and Audi says their surrounding protective plates boast blinking strips of light-emitting diodes.

Seating is staggered, with positioning of the steering wheel and pedals fully adjustable to fit the driver.
