Doors slam on Caddy's ad plans

The new Cadillac “Break Through” ad campaign featuring the Led Zeppelin song “Rock and Roll” would be swinging to a different beat if the brand's original plans had worked out. WAW has learned Cadillac initially approached another classic rock band, The Doors, about using their 1967 hit “Break On Through.” A deal seemed imminent, until at least one surviving band member rejected it.
“We turned them down,” confirms a Doors spokeswoman. “It's just not for us. It didn't have anything to do with (Cadillac).” The Doors rarely permit use of their music for advertising purposes. No problem. Cadillac was able to replace The Doors with another superstar group that previously also disdained use of its music in commercials. And despite “Rock and Roll” being its second choice, Cadillac says it's happy with the song.
