Auto Conference Topics Range From Regs to Riches
Automotive Resource Network’s event covers hot topics of a changing industry.
Terry O’Loughlin knows how regulators think. He should. He used to be one.
As a former investigator and lawyer with the Florida Attorney General’s Office, he investigated and prosecuted dealerships for alleged illegalities. Now, he’s dealership technology provider Reynolds and Reynolds’ compliance director.
In that role, he will participate in a roundtable discussion entitled, “Understanding the Regulators’ Perspective” during the 2014 Automotive Resource Network’s annual conference April 14 in New York City.
The panel will include Dealertrack attorney Randy Henrick and dealership attorney Jeffrey Levine.
The regulation of dealers has accelerated in recent years.
A relatively new agency, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, wants to change the way dealers are compensated for arranging loans. The authority of the Federal Trade Commission has been enhanced. State attorneys general are cooperating with federal agencies in policing dealer activities.
The panel will address what issues regulators are targeting and what actions they are taking against dealers.
Other conference sessions include:
A panel discussion moderated by WardsAuto Dealer Business Editor Steve Finlay on the state of the dealership sector. Dealers currently enjoy strong profits and high sales. But dealers are under pressure from various fronts. Panelists are George Athan, DCH Automotive Group; Joe Benson, Ken Garff Automotive Group; Bob Grill, Carfax; and John Jones, Dealer.com.
Certified pre-owned vehicle programs, their impact on dealerships and the need for dealer-automaker cooperation to make them work well. Panelists include former Wisconsin megadealer Jon Lancaster.
Vehicle valuation trends and insights from experts including Juan Flores of AutoTrader and Stephen Nicholson of Mercedes-Benz. They’ll discuss how to better manage used-car operations and avoid not-so-obvious risks.
A roundtable on the comeback of auto leasing and where it’s headed. Four experts will discuss the pros and cons of high lease penetration, competitiveness in the marketplace and whether used-car leasing ever will take off.
Economic outlooks from economists Tom Webb of Manheim Consulting and George Magiliano of IHS Automotive. They’ll discuss how the recovering auto sector is responding to a changing environment.
The ARN conference at the Grand Hyatt is a prelude event of the New York International Auto Show. Conference registration ranges from $150 for individual dealers to $650 for a corporate package admitting up to six people from the same organization.
