Polestar confirms it will produce a battery-electric roadster with an expected launch date of 2026.

The Polestar 6 hardtop convertible, revealed as the Polestar O² in March in Los Angeles, will be built on the automaker’s bonded aluminum platform. It will feature the high-performance, 800V electric architecture already confirmed for the Polestar 5 4-door GT launching in 2024.

The BEV roadster will have output of 884 hp and 663 lb.-ft. (900 Nm) of torque from a dual-motor powertrain, a 0-62 mph (100 km/h) sprint time of 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). Further details and production specifications will be revealed closer to launch.

The Polestar 5 from which the roadster will be derived is the production version of the Polestar Precept released in 2020 and showcasing the brand’s future vision in terms of design, technology and sustainability, the Swedish automaker says.

“With the overwhelming consumer and press response, we took the decision to put this stunning roadster into production and I am so excited to make it a reality,” Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath says in a news release. “Polestar 6 is a perfect combination of powerful electric performance and the thrill of fresh air with the top down.”

Polestar will produce 500 numbered units of a special version, the Polestar 6 LA Concept Edition. They will exclusively feature the original Polestar O² concept’s “Sky” blue exterior, light leather interior and unique 21-in. wheels.

The brand’s product cadence goes back to 2019, when the low-volume Polestar 1 performance plug-in hybrid arrived on the market. It boasted 619 hp and 738 lb.-ft. (1,001 Nm) of torque.

The Polestar 2, the automaker’s first fully electric, high-volume car, comes in three variants with a combination of long- and standard-range batteries, and dual- and single-motor powertrains making up to 476 hp and 502 lb.-ft. (681 Nm) of torque. It won Wards 10 Best Engines & Propulsion Systems and Wards 10 Best UX awards in 2021.

The Polestar 3 performance SUV debuts in October, followed in 2024 by the Polestar 4, a smaller performance SUV coupe.

Polestar cars are manufactured in two facilities in China, with additional future manufacturing planned in the U.S.
