The U.K.’s most comprehensive guide to electric-vehicle charging points has added 282 locations since it was launched two months ago, bringing the total to 1,034 charging points at 451 locations.

The Next Green Car website says “slow” chargers, taking 6-8 hours for a full charge, comprise most of the charging points on its Zap-Map.

Zap-Map lists EV charging points in the U.K.

However, the latest additions include six “fast” chargers, taking 3-4 hours for a full charge, and two “rapid” chargers giving an 80% charge in 30 minutes to add to the existing 27. Zap-Map is updated weekly.

Expansion of the U.K.’s recharging infrastructure primarily is being funded through the government’s Plugged-in Places program and by local authorities.

Despite ongoing budget cuts, the Office of Low Emission Vehicles has confirmed funding of $484.3 million (£300 million) for the installation of 8,500 recharge points by 2013, 4,000 of which will be on-street public access points.

“The continuing rollout of recharge points at home, at the workplace and in public locations is a key part of encouraging the take-up of electric vehicles,” Next Green Car Managing Editor Ben Lane says in a statement.

“As part of this electric revolution, owners of plug-in EVs need an easy-to-use data resource showing where the public recharging points are located. This is why we have developed Zap-Map in the U.K.”

Lane says he expects another 4,000 on-street charging points to be added by 2013.

Zap-Map lists the charging points’ locations, charger type and, where data is available, additional information such as fees for charging, access and parking.
